Captain Steve Hall Boca Grande Fly Fishing Guide

Captain Steve Hall Guide, a Sarasota native, has dedicated his life to service, discipline, and the outdoors. After serving four years in the military, he earned a scholarship to attend the Sarasota Law Enforcement Academy. Following his graduation, he pursued higher education and completed a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, graduating Magna cum laude.
He served as a deputy Sheriff in both Polk County and Sarasota County. While working with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, he joined the Marine Patrol Unit. During this time, he also earned his U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License in 2007.
After retiring from law enforcement, Steve turned his focus to his true passion—fly fishing. As a result of his dedication and experience, he became a guide in the saltwater backcountry. He now spends countless hours on the water, exploring the remote flats and hidden channels of Placida and Pine Island Sound, which remain his primary fishing grounds.
Additionally
In addition to guiding, Steve is an acclaimed outdoor photographer. His work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, online publications, and advertising campaigns. Because of his sharp eye and deep connection to nature, his photography captures the spirit of sport fish with rare authenticity.
Although he is deeply involved in the fishing world, Steve prefers to keep things simple. He avoids social media and email, choosing instead to spend more time dedicated to learning the waters. Known for his professionalism, quiet confidence, and deep local knowledge, Captain Hall offers a fly-fishing experience rooted in tradition, skill, respect for the water and nature. Most that spend the day with Steve will tell you his positive laid-back attitude is contagious.
John H., Business Owner
“Steve hopped up on the poling platform and I took my station on the casting deck. It only took my second cast to leave my fly line in the water long enough to have it become tangled in the engine propeller, but luckily Steve has tremendous patience and began to teach me the ropes. He put me on fish like a pro, spotted cruising reds and snook, and guided me to multiple chases and great takes in super skinny water. Watching the snook hunt down my fly reminded me of how we target stripers in Rhode Island.”
Dr. Howard Saslow, Physician
“I have fished with Captain Steve Hall for many years. As a fly fishing guide, he knows where the fish should be and where they are. Fishing with Captain Steve has been a pleasure. He is always calm and professional, guiding me to Snook, Redfish, and Tarpon on fly. I highly recommend him.”
Zach Norsworthy, COL. (R) US Army Special Forces
“Steve Hall is an amazing fisherman and teacher. He helped me complete a bucket list of saltwater fly fishing targets. His patience and skill were evident from our first day, and I made a lifelong friend. I have fished in Florida for almost 50 years and never met anyone I would rather fish with.”

“Things to keep in mind. I have a skiff on a trailer. This allows me to move with the weather, tides, and wind. I change up my fishing areas from Pine Island Sound to the Myakka River. No day is ever the same. I want you to have the best catching experience that I can possibly give you based on the time of year.
Therefore, we go where the fish are. I promote a relaxed happy environment, always staying positive. I look forward to providing clients a memorable day on the water.”
